"I purchased a fabulous Rago six-point girdle, and a pair of Birkshire stockings, a brand I haven’t tried before, and I’m really excited to take them for a test drive.  To top things off, both Rago(who has been in the foundation business since for over 65 years) and Berkshire items are made in the US!"

Body Image in The Mirror

A bra fitter discusses self-image in the fitting room on The Lingerie Addict. Anyone who criticizes herself in front of the mirror should take a look at her valuable insight!

"What saddens me most is how many clients become apologetic for the state of their bodies when confronted with the mirror:  I didn’t do my hair today.  I need to lose weight.  I have a sun burn.  I have stretch marks.  My bra is horrible.  I’m disgusting.  A physical object should not have so much control over a person’s self-esteem and emotional state."

Rago – In existence since the 1950′s, NYC-based Rago is one of the most popular shapewear brands in the world. American Shapewear, Rago’s own direct-to-consumer retailer, carries every single size and style this company makes (including the ones you’re not likely to find stocked anywhere else). Classic items like their Lacette corselette (probably my most favorite thing they make) are available up to a 48DD, while other items like their retro shaping briefs and girdles are available in up to a size 8XL (fitting a 46″ waist and 56″ hips). Garter belts and waist cinchers are available in up to a size 6XL. If you’ve felt frustrated about the lack of pinup shapewear in your size, start here.

The Lingerie Addict: Rago Style 619

During the earliest days of the now famous lingerie blog, The Lingerie Addict, Cora Harrington wrote a review of the Rago style 619 panty brief. Her thoughts, recommendations, and tips should be very helpful if you're considering getting this piece!
"While I do believe the Rago panty girdle is a good buy overall, I also want to make a few brief notes about fit. One, this panty does not come with a cotton crotch, so my female readers would want to be cautious about wearing it for long periods of time. Two, if your hips measure 10″ or more larger than your waist, I’d recommend going up one size. My hip-waist measurements are 28-40″ ,and even then I found the leg openings a bit snug at the back. I had no problems with this panty bunching, riding, or moving about and it gave me great lines under my denim pencil skirt."

High Waist Undies

Are you a fan of ‪‎high-waist‬ ‎fashion‬? This ‎retro‬ trend is back in style, and Linda the Bra Lady shares what there is to love about it! If you're a fan, what is it that you love about high-waist knickers?

"If you don’t know yet: the retro trend is 'in'. I love this throw back to another era. But what’s surprised me is the high waist bottoms! I thought gingham prints and retro bandeau tops would be enough, but I was shocked by the popularity of the high waist bottoms. Who knew? It seems you either love or hate the high waist trend. So what do you think? Is wearing a high waist swimsuit bottom or panty hot, or not? Take a look at some of the styles below and let me know your thoughts in the comments!" - Linda The Bra Lady

High-Waist Knickers

High-waist fashion is back in style, but some still consider high-waist undies "granny panties". If you're a fan of the look, you could probably identify with Gertie's blog post "In Defense of Granny Panties". She lists what she loves most about high-waist knickers! Would you add anything?

Photography by Frannie and Foe

"1. You'll get a smooth line. If you're looking for an hourglass figure, you can't do much better than a longline bra with some high-waisted undergarment on bottom. You don't want a strip of exposed flesh between your bra and your knickers, ruining your nice shapely curves, do you? Goodness no!
2. They work beautifully with retro and vintage clothes, like high-waisted trousers and skirts. And we all know how important the foundation garment is to the ensemble.
3. Tummy control. Nothing's better than a high-waisted undergarment for a smooth midsection.
4. No muffin top.  They end where your waist is!
5. They're not as frumpy as you think. In my advice, I'd say ditch the nylon varieties, which can be weirdly baggy in all the wrong places. Get a nice microfiber, like these. (Love the pink color!) For more shaping, go with a classic Rago Lacette.
6. Bettie Page. Enough said."

You Are Beautiful!

Start the week off feeling ‪‎beautiful‬ with these inspiring quotes about loving your body‬ on Cosmopolitan Magazine! See the gifs and images paired with them on their article, "11 Body Image Boosters That Will Make You Love Yourself".

1. Take a good look at yourself—and let the words of Oprah cleanse your soul: "The next time you look into the mirror, try to let go of the story line that says you're too fat or too sallow, too ashy or too old, your eyes are too small or your nose too big; just look into the mirror and see your face. When the criticism drops away, what you will see then is just you, without judgment, and that is the first step toward transforming your experience of the world.”
2. Repeat after Christina Hendricks: Life’s too short to beat yourself up for indulging in dessert, nachos, etc. The Mad Men vixen has said, "Back when I was modeling, the first time I went to Italy I was having cappuccinos every day, and I gained 15 pounds. And I felt gorgeous! I would take my clothes off in front of the mirror and be like, 'Oh, I look like a woman. And I felt beautiful, and I never tried to lose it, 'cause I loved it.'"
3. Don't judge yourself by other people's—or society's—standards. Take it from Khloe Kardashian: "I’m proud of my body. My body weight will always be something that I’ll struggle with for the rest of my life, but I’m finally in a good place and learning to love me for me, and not somebody else's standards." Preach!
4. Remember that starving yourself sucks. And J. Law doesn't approve of it in any way: “In Hollywood, I’m obese. I’m considered a fat actress. I eat like a caveman. I’ll be the only actress who doesn’t have anorexia rumors! I’m never going to starve myself for a part. I’m invincible. I don’t want little girls to be like, ‘Oh, I want to look like Katniss so I’m going to skip dinner!’”
5. Choose to love yourself, just as you are.
